There are days that I am D O N E before they even begin. Amen?
You know those ones, where the day is long but the hours are short? The to do list longer than the fuel in the productivity tank? They leave me burnt out. Having so much to do, I hide from it all because I know it will be overwhelming. Yet then the list the next day is even longer!
My typical day goes like this: wake up by six, get ready for day job, leave house at seven taking kids to sitter, 45 minute commute, work 8-5, drive 45 minutes to get kids, get home and immediately start dinner, start laundry and play with kids, eat dinner, move laundry and clean kitchen while kids finish eating, bathe boys, Pierson down for the night, maverick snuggle time on couch, Maverick bed(it’s about 8:30 now), sit on couch and talk to husband about our day, work on inquiries/submissions/editing/etc, go to bed about 1030-11. I schedule about 2-3 sessions a week, trying to avoid weekends now with Kenny’s demanding schedule. I make it a point to see family once a week, for my boys to do something active, for us to get out and explore. Oh, somewhere in there I like to squeeze in time for myself, reading/shopping/mani/studying/quiet time. Phew! It’s easy to see how I can feel burnt out right? I’m not asking for any “yeah girls!” in my corner just to say I get it.
On Sunday, I listened to Pastor Leon of Salt Church(we love it there!) talk about purpose, the promises God makes to us if we just follow him. He said a lot that made think but one thing just jumped out at me “Burnout does not come from doing too much, it comes from not doing your life’s purpose”. WOW. It instantly made me rethink the commitments on my schedule, I want so badly for my kids to be involved in a lot, to experience a lot, but is it contributing to my purpose or my burn out?
Think about it when you say yes to something, will this burn you out or will it fill you up?
Will you feel rejuvenated and inspired from it?
Or will you dread doing it because you know it is just making your today list longer?
Add quality to your life in the choices you make, don’t contribute to your own burn out!
Happy Friday!
