It feels like forever since I sat in Starbucks with Carter (where we showed up in matching outfits!) and heard about her wedding day plans, big band and white dinner jackets with florals galore. Every single tiny detail planned to the utmost perfection, blending hers and his in one heck of a celebration at The Hermitage Museum & Gardens in Norfolk.
Carter and her girls got ready at her parents home located on the water in Norfolk, just near their venues. The girls wore matching adorable jammies and her aunt did her beauty services, so special! After getting dressed in her classic silk dress, her parents gifted her a piece of family jewelry for her something blue. Since the weather had been really wonky all week, I was CONSTANTLY checking the weather. We even texted that morning and shared a screenshot, we were good to go!!! YAY!! I checked when I got in the car and again saw we were definitely in the clear or so I thought.
I got Cary in place for the first look, went back to grab Carter and the sky let loose. Despite the forecast, everything the weather said we should be getting we got the complete opposite of this day. You know what though? It didn’t matter!! Their family and friends had traveled from ALL over to celebrate and we CELEBRATED!!!
Delicious food and drinks, AMAZING band sounds, and (my favorite part) DOUMAR’S!!! If you’re not local, Doumar’s is historic diner that is home to the waffle cone! SUCH a fun treat to have them there for dessert, especially on that humid night!
It’s hard for me to narrow down my favorite parts of this day: the beautiful bridesmaid dresses, the incredible floral displays, the God centered ceremony, how Cary continually told Carter how pretty she looked, the sounds of that band pumping through the air or the intense ENERGY of all the guests having the best dang time. No scary rain and thunderstorms were going to stop this wedding from being one for the books!! I don’t think I will ever hear a better rendition of Sweet Home Alabama as I did when a dance floor full of guests FROM Alabama sang it!!
