Melissa & Mark

Wedding

We emailed alot. Thanks to my busy life as a working mom to two chasing my passion and hers as a bride planning a destination wedding while in school, email was the best way. It’s not like I don’t know Melissa. We went to high school together and although she was a year older then me, I never felt like that. She was one half of the Trotman twins (my mom still calls them that and was thrilled I was shooting her wedding!) and her brother totally had pity on me and was my ring dance and prom date! So, we definitely know each other. I was ecstatic when she emailed me asking if I traveled for weddings because I had 1. never had that college experience and KNEW Virginia Tech oozed it and 2. I wanted nothing more then to chat and catch up with a high school friend! So, we emailed and emailed and had a few phone conversations. When I arrived at the German Club guest house that Saturday afternoon with Leigh it was like no time had passed. Greeted with smiles and hugs, the atmosphere was SO relaxed. I never know what I walk into on wedding days and have to wear many hats. Here I was able to take a few of those off and just be present in Melissa’s day. I had already met Mark and knew instantly what a great match they were. He is friendly with a great smile and made me and Leigh feel right at ease! All of her bridesmaids were fantastic! So happy and excited and asking how they could help. The day was definitely cold, pretty sure my thermometer was 258!, but that didn’t stop 175 of their closest friends and family(most who had traveled hours to party with them!) from celebrating! After a perfect ceremony, officiated by Mark’s dad(his 90th one!), we hopped in the limo and toured the campus jumping out at spots that were important to them and their relationship. Since, VT pulled out a win against Duke that day it only seemed right to get one in front of the stadium! I could go on and on about their reception, literally so so much fun! I had no idea how many traditions happened when you were a member of a sorority/club/college etc! One maroon and orange party crasher and a few more dances, it was time to say goodnight under a sparkler awning.

Thank you to my fantastic second/assistant/road dog/navigator Leigh! You rock and I am blessed to call you a friend!
